Major Upgrade to On Hand Inventory iPhone App, Including Bluetooth Barcode Scanning

Stevens Creek Software announced today that a major upgrade to its On Hand™ inventory software for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad is now available at Apple's iTunes App Store. Renamed On Hand BT™, users can now take inventory using low-cost handheld Bluetooth barcode scanners. On Hand BT also features significantly enhanced barcode recognition using the built-in camera.

Cupertino, CA  April 02, 2012 — Stevens Creek Software has optimized its On Hand BT iOS app for use with mobile Bluetooth barcode scanners such as the CHS 7C introduced by Socket Mobile™ in October. In addition, the camera scanning capability of iPhones, iPod Touch and iPad is greatly improved and suitable when data collection can trade off some speed of operation in exchange for not requiring an additional device.

On Hand BT allows users to inventory stock at multiple locations, and then to export the collected information via email, direct upload to a company's website, file transfer via Apple's iTunes software, or upload to a Dropbox™ account. Support for Dropbox allows easy synchronization of the inventory data to computers running either Macintosh, Windows or Linux, and does so in a secure manner. Data output can be done directly from the field, using either cellular connectivity from suitable devices (iPhone or cellular-equipped iPad) or WiFi.

On Hand BT scanning also allows users to decrement counts when scanning. This means users can start an inventory process by downloading a file containing desired stocking levels of each product and then, after deducting the actual inventory on hand, to immediately produce output containing the information needed for restocking.

Decrementing capability can also be used for "pick and pack" operations, where required quantities for individual orders can be preloaded into the software and then scanned as items are packed until the count for each item becomes zero.

Stevens Creek Software first introduced its On Hand handheld inventory software for the PalmOS in 1999, and thousands of copies of the software are deployed around the world. Users of this earlier version of the software combine it with PalmOS barcode scanners made first by Symbol Technology and more recently by Janam, while others use plug-in SD-based barcode scanners made by Socket Mobile. Now, with the aid of Bluetooth technology that is built into every iOS device, Socket Mobile and Stevens Creek Software are combining to bring low-cost inventory data collection to the iOS platform.
