The Cyclist's Training Bible
by Joe Friel
Description
A complete manual for the self-coached cyclist, concentrating (in ways similar to Sleamaker
and Browning's SERIOUS Training for Endurance Athletes) on laying
out a training program taking into account varying intensities of training, periodization, and
similar concepts. A nice complement to Eddie B's Bicycle Road Racing,
which has much more on racing tactics and strategies but much less on training.
About the Author
Joe Friel has coached adult endurance athletes - both amateurs and professions - since 1980.
From 1970 to 1980 he coached high school athletes. He has a masters degree in exercise science,
and is an expert-level certified coach with USA Cycling. A nationally recognized authority on
endurance training, he is a regular contributor to such publications as VeloNews and
Inside Triathlon, and has written a training column for the Fort Collins Coloradoan
newspaper since 1981. He lives and trains in Fort Collins.

Reviews
Len Pettyjohn, Former director of the Coors Light pro cycling team: "Joe does an excellent
job of outlining the elements of racing fitness, a means to identify performance and most importantly,
a plan to develop speed."
Ed Burke, Ph.D., author of Serious Cycling and High Tech Cycling: "Joe
Friel's writing provides invaluable information for any rider at any level. Friel's work is
characteristically authoritative and unbeatably comprehensive."
